Abstract

Currently, the market is flooded with many synthetic cosmetics which contain heavy metals like lead, nickel, copper, chromium, arsenic and cobalt and while applying these, some of those toxic substances are absorbed by the skin. Azadirachta indica or known as the neem tree is widely used in the folk medicine of South-Eastern Asia. This short review discussed various methods that are applied to extract neem oil. The obtained oil contains several active ingredients that are useful as antimicrobial agents. Neem cosmetics have the potential to be commercialized and function as an antibactericidal product.
